Tom Steele –
Safe School Plans
•After a decorated career in law enforcement, including assignments as a Sergeant and SWAT Team Leader, Tom entered the realm of education where he has been high school teacher, site administrator, Director of Student Services, Senior Director of Administrative Services, and a Safe Schools and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Consultant II for the Division of Student Services at the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
•Tom has presented at county and state conferences on school security assessment, emergency preparedness, safety issues and PBIS. Tom regularly works with the California Department of Education (CDE), Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) as well as California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), California Department of Justice (DOJ), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), administrators to make schools safer and better prepared for responding to crisis.
•Tom is the writer of the 2020 LACOE Educator’s Guide to Comprehensive School Safety Plans which was written with a team including members from LACOE, CDE, DOJ, OES and the FBI and is due to be released in the Fall of 2020.
•Tom consults with schools and districts on school climate, security, safety, and emergency preparedness, including assessing current safety measures and can provides recommendations and training for enhancing those measures.
