PBIS/MTSS and PLUS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is based on a problem-solving model and aims to prevent inappropriate behavior through teaching and reinforcing appropriate behaviors (OSEP Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports, 2007). Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a process that is consistent with the core principles of MTSS. (from PBIS Newsletter Vol 4, Issue 2)
PLUS offers PBIS/MTSS Teams a range of interventions that can addresses the role of the environment as it applies to development and improvement of behavior problems. PLUS Teams serve as the liaison between the PBIS/MTSS teams and the student body. Districts implementing PLUS see this youth leadership class as part of their PBIS/MTSS program plans. The PLUS Program becomes the source of quantitative and qualitative data integration for accurate program development planning.
Activities the PLUS Program implements that align with PBIS/MTSS planning include but are not limited to:
- Cross age mentoring for academic achievement
- Monthly student led forums that engage student voice
- Behavior modeling and prevention program activities
- Data Gathering to assess school climate and student environment
- Bully prevention program planning
